The Compost Doctors Scotland (CDS) programme is intended to extend the Master Composter programme initiated last year from the domestic out into the public and commercial sectors. It will complement a similar Compost Doctors programme commenced in England and Wales some 16 months ago. Compost Doctors in England enrolled and trained 6 Compost Doctors to engage 14 Compost Doctor Partners and compost an aggregate 99 tonnes using a variety of composting systems.
The CDS programme aims to recruit 15 personnel with extensive experience in community composting, to engage and encourage neighbouring organisations with significant food residues eg, schools, colleges, hospitals and hotels to adopt onsite local composting programmes.
Each Compost Doctor will receive, along with ample support and training, £150 per day for 19 days work until March 2010. In return they will be required, again with the assistance of CDS, to recruit, train and monitor two organisations, either public organisations or private SMEs, to undertake onsite composting using a variety of systems.
The CDS Programme will be delivered in Scotland by CRNS Enterprises and is funded by the INCREASE Programme.
