Mr Silly Sausage says: "Finish your food!"July 2, 2009
The project has encouraged thousands of Edinburgh primary school pupils and their parents to consider and address food waste through a series of interventions. Food waste has reduced, on average, by a third from those schools taking part in the project. Pupils attend an interactive assembly at which they learn different ways to reduce food waste at home and in school from Mr Silly Sausage. The pupils then take home a leaflet with the challenge to try to clear their plate at each mealtime for seven days. A week later, Mr Silly Sausage returns to the school to oversee a Finish Your Food day where everyone must finish their food.
Finish Your Food has been successfully developed and implemented in Edinburgh schools through the Scottish Waste Education Support Programme, run by sustainable development charity Changeworks. |
